The theme and idea was : "Broadway Show". I wanted to created an image which mimics the glamorous and dazzling lights of Broadway shows, in which a car would be placed in the center stage as the main hero.
After a couple of hours researching and sketching, I came up with this.

As I review my idea, I realised what a missed opportunity it is to leave it as a still image. I decided to animate it. And just like that, what meant to be a couple hours of work turned into 3 weeks of late nights and weekends invested.
Direction / Storyboard
Because it's an after-thought to make an animation based off of a simple sketch, it will be too much work to write a proper script and animate according to it. Instead, I just want to keep it simple and make it a music driven-piece. That way, the shots and flow of the animation can be inspired by the tempo and beat of the music.
Through the variety of music libraries available online, eventually I found my track on premiumbeat. The tempo and beat of the music fits perfectly what I have in mind. With the music decided, I began working on my storyboard based on the music.

My storyboard process for this project is pretty barebones, just some notes that I wrote based off the beats of the music and what I imagine would happen during that moment. (perks of a personal project!) Because this is a music driven piece and I will be working on the 3D models next, I decided to proceed from the "storyboard" and focus on using animatics instead to better preview the pacing and shot designs. The scribbles you see is me iterating between the animatics and storyboard.
Cinema 4D / Animatics / Redshift / Compositing
As I wanted a bright and dazzling look for the final image, I knew that most of the effects had to be done in the compositing stage. So I made sure to prepare the necessary passes required for the compositing process to proceed smoothly.
